How to Check Your Electricity Bill Without a Reference Number
If you have lost your old bill and do not have the reference number, you still have several ways to get your bill details. None of these methods are quite as quick as having the number on hand, but all of them work.
Where to Find the Reference Number
Before trying alternatives, check these places for your reference number. It is sometimes in places people overlook.
Your reference number is printed on: every physical bill you have ever received, any SMS payment confirmation from JazzCash or Easypaisa, your bank statement if you paid by bank transfer (the merchant reference often includes it), any previous complaint or correspondence with the DISCO, and the welcome letter you received when your connection was first installed.
Method 1: Call 118 (Fastest)
- 1
Call 118 from any mobile or landline
This is the national electricity helpline, free on all networks, available 24 hours. Tell the agent you need your bill details but have lost your reference number.
- 2
Provide your address and CNIC
The agent will search by your address and/or your CNIC number. Be ready to give your complete address including street name, area, and city.
- 3
Get your reference number verbally
The agent can read your reference number and current bill amount to you. Write it down immediately so you do not lose it again.
Method 2: Visit Your Nearest DISCO Office
- 1
Go to your circle or sub-division office
Take your original CNIC with you. You do not need any other documents for a simple bill inquiry.
- 2
Ask the counter staff for a bill printout
Give your address and CNIC. The counter staff can look up your account, print a duplicate bill, and give you your reference number. This is a routine request they handle daily.
- 3
Collect your reference number and bill
Once you have the reference number, save it somewhere safe — in your phone contacts, a notes app, or photograph it. You will need it for every future online bill check.
Other Methods
Email your DISCO
Most DISCOs have email addresses (e.g. info@lesco.gov.pk, info@iesco.com.pk). Send your full address and CNIC number and ask for your account reference number. Response times vary from 1 to 5 days.
Ask a neighbour or building manager
In apartments or shared buildings, the building manager often keeps a record of utility reference numbers. If your neighbour has the same building manager, they may already know where to find it.
Save Your Reference Number Now
Once you have your reference number, save it in at least two places: as a contact in your phone (search 'LESCO' or 'MEPCO' and add the number as their phone number) and in a notes app or photo album. This one habit prevents the whole problem from recurring.
FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Can I check my electricity bill by CNIC number online?
Most DISCO websites do not offer CNIC-based online lookups. The online portal requires a reference or consumer number. The CNIC route works best through the 118 helpline or in person at a DISCO office.
What if I am a tenant and never received a bill at all?
Ask your landlord for the reference number — it is attached to the premises, not the occupant. If the landlord is unavailable, visit the local DISCO sub-division office with the property address and your tenancy agreement as proof of occupancy.
How long does it take to get a duplicate bill from the DISCO office?
If you visit the office in person, a duplicate bill printout is usually issued on the spot within a few minutes. The officer just needs your CNIC and address to look it up.
